Maui Divers of Hawaii was founded in 1958 in Lahaina, Maui, once a bustling whaler’s port. The company began by escorting adventurous visitors on underwater excursions to view the island’s exotic ocean environment.
A fishing expedition in the deep waters off the Molokai Channel led Maui Divers to the discovery of one of the ocean’s finest treasures, Hawaiian black coral, considered to be the most lustrous coral in the world. A year later in 1959, utilizing careful and controlled harvesting to ensure the future of the resource, the company began designing, manufacturing and selling Hawaiian black coral jewelry.…thus Maui Divers Jewelry was founded. In 1962, Maui Divers expanded its operations and relocated to Honolulu.
Over the decades, the company established itself as the largest jewelry manufacturer in the state of Hawaii, as well as the world’s largest manufacturer of precious coral jewelry. In addition to Hawaiian black coral, Maui Divers features rare Hawaiian gold coral and exotic deep-water pink and red corals. The company also showcases unique handcrafted collections featuring cultured Tahitian black pearls, South Sea pearls, Japanese Akoya pearls, freshwater pearls, Australian opals, diamonds and other beautiful gemstones. Hawaiian gold jewelry featuring Hawaii and Pacific Ocean themes and marine life, and heirloom jewelry of 14-karat and black enamel are also featured.
Every piece of Maui Divers’ jewelry is handcrafted, from design sketch to final stone setting, in the company’s Jewelry Design Center in Honolulu. More than 350,000 visitors tour the Jewelry Design Center each year, getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of fine jewelry with an exotic island flair.
